The Earlville Opera House Arts Café features the amazing talent of blues artist David Jacobs-Strain on Saturday, May 11th at 8pm. David Jacobs-Strain plays “Indie-infused delta blues with twangy slide guitar and tender vocals. Harmonica virtuoso Bob Beach artfully adds his blues harp to the mix.
A consummate finger-style and slide guitarist, this young singer-songwriter brings an old-school sensibility to a new generation of blues and roots rock. His solo talents have drawn rave reviews in earlier recordings: “Stuck on the Way Back… reveals chilling original tunes that the solo acoustic blues artist takes to the edge with virtuosic slide and fingerpicking. Besides his fret-busting chops and barrelhouse vocals, Jacobs-Strain’s deep knowledge of the past informs his music with an authenticity that is startling for his age.” – Dave Rubin, Guitar One, The New Guitar Heroes, Nov 2002
In his twenties, Jacobs-Strain is a veteran of the national club and festival circuit. Big City Blues Magazine reviewed his new release Live From the Left Coast; “It’s great to hear twenty-somethings like Jacobs-Strain, here artfully shadowed by harmonica virtuoso Bob Beach, continuing to take the blues in fresh new directions but, then again, with the equally imaginative Otis Taylor and Bob Brozman as mentors, what else would you expect?”
David Jacobs-Strain and Bob Beach partnered on the CD, Live from the West Coast, “a genre-defying journal of Jacob-Strain’s pursuit to honor both the roots of American country blues and the possibilities that grow from them.” Jacobs-Strain has a new release coming out in June 2013 called Geneseo.
