For 16 years, the Earlville Opera House has been home to an amazing display of artistic talent and creativity known as the Annual Holiday Artisans Sale. Beginning the week before Thanksgiving this year (instead of the usual Friday after Thanksgiving), visitors can choose from the work of over 70 local and regional artists to begin their holiday shopping.
The first floor of the historic 19th century building is transformed from workshop space and gallery space into a wonderland of intermingled treasures that entice and astound. Displayed on tables draped with fabric, hung on the walls, and sparkling from special displays, the combination of artistry, creativity, imagination, and beauty is truly awe-inspiring.
No matter who you buy for, there is something for everyone at this fantastic sale – handmade wooden toys, traditional games, mittens and hats and socks for winter fun with children and grandchildren. A variety of potters offer practical and beautiful additions to the kitchens of your favorite cooks; jewelry abounds, for all ages and all styles. Handmade sweaters, gloves, scarves, shawls, and hats in so many varieties, many created with locally harvested fibers from sheep, goats, alpaca, and llamas. Beautiful paintings and photographs both as framed art and as matted prints and note cards. Handmade soaps and lotions, dried flower arrangements, practical and beautiful baskets of all sizes and shapes – there just isn’t enough room to describe all the beautiful work that goes into creating this amazing show.
This year marks the debut participation of several new artists with exciting new wares. If you think you’ve seen it all on the first weekend, think again: new artists and new artwork arrives throughout the sale. There’s always something more to see, so plan to come more than once.
On Sunday, December 15, upstairs in the Arts Café, the EOH Holiday Tea will be served from 1-4 pm, with all proceeds to benefit “Arts for Youth.” Homemade holiday cookies and cakes, along with English tea, served in a beautiful setting with fine antique china, tableware, and linens is the perfect way to make your holiday shopping extra special. The cost is only $15 person (or $13 for EOH members). Reservations are required.
The Holiday Sale will run for five consecutive weekends, from Friday, November 22, through Sunday, December 22. Admission is free, and hours are 10 am to 4 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and Noon to 4 pm on Sundays.
