Canada’s James Keelaghan and Dave Gunning Award Winning Songwriters from the North

Two of Canada’s finest songwriters come to the Earlville Opera House on Saturday, October 4th for an evening of swapping songs. Show time with these award-winning musicians is at 8 pm.   James Keelaghan is originally from Calgary in western Canada, while Dave Gunning hails from Nova Scotia in the East.   Each songwriter has received powerful praise for their respective works. Keelaghan has earned a Juno (Canadian Grammy) while Gunning has six East Coast Music Awards.


James Keelaghan, Possessed of an insatiable appetite for finding the next unique story line, Keelaghan forges his pieces with brilliant craftsmanship and monogrammed artistic vision, making him one of the most distinctive and readily identifiable voices on both the Canadian and international singer-songwriter scenes.

James Keelaghan is one of Canada’s international stars. “There is poetry and meaning in true folk music which separates modern folk from standard singer/songwriter fare and few have it down better than James Keelaghan. Blessed with textured voice, a cross between maybe that of Gordon Lightfoot and Roger Whittaker, he captures the folk era of the late sixties-through-seventies with straightforward and simple charm.” Folk and Acoustic Music Exchange 
His passionate mix of roots rock, Americana, and contemporary folk has established Keelaghan’s presence in Europe, Australia, and North America. His songwriting captures his love of history. His ballads on his 1987 debut Timelines played with such beauty, captured historical Canadian events such as WWII and the Canadian Pacific Railroad. His debut My Skies garnered him the highest praise winning a Juno award for Best Roots Traditional Recording. He also earned a second Juno nomination for his album, A Recent Future and a third for a collaboration with Oscar Lopez called Compadres that fused Latin and Celtic music.
