The Earlville Opera House presents this summer’s GOLDEN ARTIST COLORS SERIES WORKSHOPS. These classes are taught with Golden Artist Colors paints and expertise!  Sam Golden started local company in 1980; they now sell their products around the world. Their mission has been to work with artists to produce excellent high quality acrylics and art materials that meet developing needs in the field.

“Marbleizing Paper and Fabric” will be on Tuesday, July 14 from 6 pm to 9 pm.  The process of hand marbling paper was a closely guarded secret, and even today, marbling can be frustrating to learn.  Thinned paints are floated on a thickened medium, manipulated to create patterns, and then the pattern is transferred to a prepared paper, cloth or other substrate.

Some marble prints hanging to dry on a clothes line.

The class will show you how to prepare your materials, balance colors, and create intricate patterns.  Supplies, substrates and Golden Artist Colors Acrylics provided with the fee for marbleizing paper.  If you wish to work on fabric, please contact us so that the easy prep of your fabric can be done before the class.  The techniques are the same after the fabric is prepped.

Michael Townsend is an artist and employee of Golden Artist Colors, Inc. He has been with Golden over 20 years, working in the Quality Control, Research & Development, Custom Product Development, and Technical Support Departments. Michael has a BA of Studio Arts from Mansfield University, where he studied printmaking, silk-screening, sculpture and painting.

Michael has experience in mural painting, spraying, marbling, substrate preparation, varnishing and many other artist applications. In his own work he enjoys painting everything from abstracts to landscapes, using everything from paint and brushes, to airbrushes and digital tools. Michael enjoys demonstrating and teaching other artists how to use methods and materials in their own artwork.

The tuition for the workshop is  $50 and includes $10 materials fee – all materials provided for working with paper. Scholarships are available for teens to take this class.
