Calling all actors!
Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Gondoliers will be presented at the historic Earlville Opera House, August 18-21, 2016. Directed by Pat Stone, with music direction by Rusty Ritzel, this performance will be held as a fundraiser for the historic EOH.
The Gondoliers (or, The King of Barataria) is the twelfth collaboration between composer Arthur Sullivan and librettist W.S. Gilbert. Two just-married Venetian gondoliers are informed that one of them has just become the King of Barataria. Unfortunately, the prince was entrusted as an infant to the care of a drunken gondolier, who mixed up the two. The young men must now jointly rule the kingdom until the nurse of the prince can be brought in to determine which of them is the rightful king. Complicating matters further, the prince was married as an infant to the daughter of the Spanish Duke of Plaza Toro, making her the new Queen. Of course, she is in love with someone else! A witty, tuneful satire of class, love, and politics.
AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD Monday, June 20 at 7:00 PM and Thursday, June 23 at 7:00 PM at the Earlville Opera House, located at 18 East Main Street, Earlville, NY 13332.
All vocal parts and ages are welcome. Please prepare a short piece to sing – if it is not from The Gondoliers, bring sheet music for the accompanist. You may be asked to read as well. We hope to see you there!
