In my time at the Earlville Opera House I have been lucky enough to meet and work with many talented artists and musicians, but this exhibition brings me special joy. The Annual KidsART Exhibit features the amazing work of students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Collaborating with art teachers from local elementary schools, the exhibit celebrates the freedom of expression and incomparable joy that comes so readily from young children.
The importance of art education in our schools cannot be understated. While not as easily quantified as math and reading, there are numerous proven benefits to an arts education, including overall improved academic performance, increased language skills, and improved critical thinking and creative problem solving. Moreover, in asking us to imagine an experience outside of our own, the arts encourage empathy in that they serve as a bridge between different people and cultures.
With this in mind, I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all of the teachers who have participated in this project. Your tireless dedication and boundless creativity serves not only your students, but our community as a whole.
And finally, to our young artists: bravo on a job well done!
