The Earlville Galleries will celebrate the amazing artwork of young artists in the Central New York community with its Annual TeensART Exhibit, showcasing the artwork of students in grades 6-12 from area schools. The show runs March 18 – April 29, 2017, with an opening reception for the artists and their families March 18 from 12-3 PM.
The Earlville Opera House was founded in 1970 as a not-for-profit, volunteer-based, community service organization promoting the arts in a rural region of central New York by offering programs of cultural, educational, and historical significance; and preserving and restoring the architectural and historic integrity of the Earlville Opera House, a unique second-story theater constructed in 1892.
In keeping with our mission to make the performing arts a larger and more active part of our community, EOH offers an eclectic range of programs, to appeal to all segments of the regional populations, including families, lower-income people, people with disabilities, people of color, and blue-collar and agricultural workers. We strive to serve our rural community that is chronically underserved by the arts and composed of a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, abilities, interests and races.
Last year alone we tracked 8,628 attendees at our free and low-cost arts programming, and saw 3,332 gallery attendees over 2016’s 6 exhibition cycles, including partnerships with 11 area schools. We are proud to partner with educators and students on these worthwhile projects, and believe in the inherent benefits of arts education in teaching empathy and innovation. Additionally, schoolchildren exposed to art are more proficient in other subjects, show increased college enrollment, and participate more frequently in civic activities, such as volunteering and eventually voting.
We hope that you will join us for the opening reception of the TeensART Exhibit as we celebrate the creativity and vision of our young artists. Opening receptions for the artists will be held on March 18 from 12-3 PM with light refreshments. Gallery hours are 10-5 Tuesday-Friday and 12-3 on Saturdays. Admission is free, and the EOH is wheelchair-accessible with a ramp and a lift. For more information, call 315-691-3550 or visit www.earlvilleoperahouse.com. The Opera House is located at 18 East Main Street, in Earlville, NY. EOH events are made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, and through the generosity of EOH members.
